I think it might have something to do with skaters withdrawing late. Then it’s a rush to fill the spot. It’s certainly all worked out well with this team in terms of extra opportunities.
You’re probably right. I do wonder about the effects of jet lag though when they are competing in different parts of the world without much of a break in between.
